Dancing is a great way to let off some steam. It allows you to focus on the NOW, to be aware of your body and how it feels right now, to enjoy yourself, and the music. It’s a way of exercising without noticing the effort. It’s also a way of connecting – with yourself, the music, your partner, your emotions, and whatever there is to feel and express in the moment.
This year I’ve learned a lot about movement and how moving – in a physical way – also helps us move forward in life. If felt how I was stuck in trying not to move, out of fear that I’d go in the wrong direction, or the sensation that I didn’t really know how to move. I think it was really about wanting to move only when I had it all figured out. Do you recognize that pattern in yourself or in your life?
Well, I realized that IT DOESN’T MATTER. It doesn’t matter if we move the right way, if we make a mistake, or if we “get there”. It just doesn’t matter. We spend so much time on trying to figure out how to move, that we move really late, or sometimes not at all. And when life is complex and challenging, there is no way we can figure it all out mentally. Then, the best we can do is to keep moving – and to allow ourselves to learn with every step that we take. Why not make a few mistakes? Why not discover what works and what doesn’t? That way, we can get a bigger experience we can draw from later, and we grow a lot in the process.
So, today I’ll ask you to pick a song and
DANCE.
Just start moving, and don’t worry about how it looks, if you do it right, or if this is how it’s meant to be. Just focus on your body and on how it wants to move. Let your body lead you, not your mind.
If you feel like – this is a song I love to dance to:
You can choose any music you like, dance alone or with a partner, at home or on the street, even on a table or on your bed. Allow yourself to enjoy the movement, and let it give you the experiences you need, and take you to where ever and who ever you need to be today!
Have fun! Please let me know how it was and leave a comment below or on my facebook page!
